Shoe Fads

I don't know if this is something the entire crossfit community deals with, or just my beloved little gym. Maybe I'm the only one who notices it. But it seems we go through phases where almost the entire gym is OBSESSED with a certain shoe.

There was the Onitsuka Tiger phase...

The Nike Free phase...

OF COURSE there was the Vibram Five Fingers phase...

Currently we're in the Inov8 (f-lite series) phase...

Makes me wonder if it's all about sharing new and better equipment, as we all like to think we're doing, or just about keeping up with the Joneses.

I'm starting the search for new shoes. I've been thinking for a few months mine are starting to look a little ragged, and my knees have started bugging me the last few weeks, so I think it's time. I'll give some others a try on, but I have a feeling I'm going to stick with my Tigers.

Farewell, sweet Easter Eggs... I love you.

Buck Furpees

My love of backsquat and kb swings just wasn't able to outweigh my loathing of burpees in tonight's WOD. Skinned knees and several expletives later, I did actually complete it, and on the positive side, all the kb swings (overhead) were Rx weight (16kg) and unbroken. Trying not to get down on myself, but I've had some rough ones lately. Though much of that is due to the congestion I've been dealing with, and a lot of disappointment in other areas of my life casting a bit of a negative shadow over my life. Need to work on that.

In food news, I had some almond stuffed, bacon wrapped dates recently that were incredible. Really easy to make, a good one for the arsenal of paleo treats.

And to end, a few recent pictures...

Gary Taubes in Vogue? YES!

Who would have thunk it. Maybe the idea of my blog is actually catching on; fashion and paleo... Who knew.

Now, Gary Taubes, isn't on par with Robb Wolfe, Loren Cordain, Mark Sisson, or any of the dudes over at whole9. But, as the author of "Good Calories, Bad Calories," he's a pretty respected author and nutritionist in the paleo community. The actual word "paleo" does not appear anywhere in the article, and plays devil's advocate in including quotes from traditionalist doctors and nutritionists. But it starts out with the fact that Taubes and Vogue's Elizabeth Weil are meeting for lunch at T-Rex, "a caveman-type resteraunt," goes on to explain chronically elevated insulin levels, and includes this paleo-cornerstone statement:

"Taubes recommends unlimited quantities of meat, fish, poultry, and eggs, plus vegetables daily. He embraces fat but is skeptical of whole grains (they elevate blood sugar) and milk (lactose is a carb)."

In other news, I've been shopping a little too much lately. I've got a pretty sweet wardrobe currently to show for it though.
